What Does Holistic Gynecology Mean?

Holistic refers to making whole. We are more than flesh and blood. We are spirit. We have emotions, thoughts and social connections. All of these things contribute to our overall health. Holistic gynecology takes all of this into consideration while caring for women.

Dr. Dawson is board certified in holistic medicine, as well as obstetrics and gynecology (one of the first such physicians in the state of Georgia). She practices the art and science of healing by addressing the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. She encourages lifestyle changes, proper nutrition, complementary alternatives, conventional drugs, and /or surgery when appropriate. She encourages you to consider how your "biography" may be affecting your "biology."

For example, Dr. Dawson will not merely measure your hormones and give you a prescription as treatment for menopause. She is also interested in how your body handles estrogen, eating habits, level of exercise, adrenal gland health, the state of your thyroid, how you handle stress, any job or relationship conflicts, ongoing abuse, and whether there are any unhealed emotional wounds from the past. All of these things can impact menopause.

Dr. Dawson understands there are many paths to healing besides drugs and surgery. Several alternative approaches include Traditional Chinese medicine, naturopathy, homeopathy, energy medicine, mind-body interventions, bodywork (massage), and herbal medicine. She will refer you to and work with well-trained practitioners of these healing arts as indicated.
